It's that time of year again, where we can ditch the light and bright makeup of summer, and change to the deep, gorgeous hues that reflect the changing leaves and the colder weather. It's fall! I did a similar post last year, but fall is such a rich tapestry of colors that I've decided to do a 2015 edition as well.
In the summer, heavy makeup often looks out of place. My favorite eyeliners, lipsticks, and shadows usually begin to collect dust because they just don't fit the mood of the season. Fall, however, is a great time to show off that winged liner, huge lashes, colorful eyes, and deep lips.
This autumn, I'm going with dark berry shades on my lips. Deep colors like these make lips look plump and luscious.
I recently purchased Milani's Color Statement Lipstick in the shade Brandy Berry (#49) and I really love it. The dark plum color is very flattering with my alabaster skin. It makes my lips look huge, which is a definite plus!
It's a pearl finish, so it's not too slick or shiny, but closer to matte but with a hint of sparkle. The best part? It smells like vanilla frosting. I had no idea, as I don't own much Milani, but when I got a whiff of this lipstick I was in love immediately.
Speaking of sweetness, my other love this fall is NYX Butter Gloss in Devil's Food Cake. This is definitely not a summer color!! This dewy, rich gloss is another beautiful plum shade. It's not as opaque as the Milani lipstick, so if you're looking for something a little lighter then this is a good option.
NYX Butter Glosses have always been a favorite. The quality and price can't be beat, and they smell and taste delicious. This dark shade will have you nice and cozy for the autumn chill.
For my eyes, this year I'm really inspired lately by the leaves turning their golds, browns, reds and oranges. I'm usually a neutral kind of gal when it comes to my eye makeup, but this autumn I figure why not get a bit creative.
Recently, the UK brand Makeup Revolution finally became available through Ulta in the United States. I immediately snatched up the Mermaids Forever palette because of the wide range of colors.
There's so much going on with this palette, it's hard to imagine a look that you couldn't do with it. It's got the basic neutrals, plus the fun gem tones and pastels. It's even got a mix of finishes including mattes and shimmers.
This collection of shadows practically screams autumn, with every color of the fall represented. You've got oranges, reds, greens, browns, and even the blues of a beautiful October sky. This season, let your eyeshadow capture some of the colors of nature by experimenting with less typical colors. My favorites this fall are the oranges and browns.
The orange shades such as Creature and Starfish make an awesome crease shade, where I'll use a light beige as my base across my eyelid, and then sweep and blend either orange in the crease. Then, I take a bit of the browns such as Mineral or Treasure, and tap a little into the outer corner for some depth. Finish with a highlight on the brow bone and I've got a lovely autumnal look. Mixing the oranges with the row of reds in the palette also is beautiful. The browns are also great to smudge a little along the bottom lash line. Get a bit crazy this fall and play with some shades that are out of your comfort zone!!
I think my theme this season for makeup is saturation. I want the deep, vibrant colors that are considered overkill in spring and summer! I want the plums, the berries, the browns, the crimsons, the oranges, I want it all. I love the fall!!
