Favorite Fall Makeup Trends

I love the autumn, where the air gets chillier and the clothes become cozier. Nothing beats a crisp November Saturday, going about town in a comfy hoodie and enjoying a Pumpkin Spice latte. As the weather gets colder, and the heat of summer becomes a distant memory, I take the opportunity to look at my makeup routine and shake it up a bit to reflect the style of the season.

My favorite trend of the fall is the deeper shades of lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow. Where spring and summer is all about lightening up your makeup (brighter colors, sheerer coverage), autumn is a time for saturated tones and warmth. As the leaves turn vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges, my makeup gets richer as well.

One such change in my makeup is a switch to lipstick that is deeper red than the pink tones I favor in the warmer months. My favorite at the moment is Mally Beauty's High Shine Liquid Lipstick in the shade Sweet Berry.

I am in love with this lipstick. It is perfect for
the colder seasons in so many ways! The color is awesome for the fall (and winter), where it is a beautiful reddish pink with blue undertones. The blue undertones make it a very flattering cool red, and also helps to make teeth look whiter (which is always a plus!). It's a great shade for gals who want to play with red lip color but don't want to make the commitment to a bright true red, or a deep burgundy red. It lives up to its name as it reminds me of lips stained from Thanksgiving cranberry sauce. Also, this liquid lipstick is incredibly smooth on the lips and is very hydrating, which is going to help as the weather gets cold and lips get chapped.

Darker toned lipstick just screams warm and cozy to me, exactly what I want for fall makeup.

In the fall I also like to change out my blush from light pinks and magentas, in favor of plums and roses. I like my cheeks to look like they have that flush that occurs when coming in from the cold. The blush I've been using this season is the Lorac Pro Powder Cheek Stain in Rosy Glow. This is my first Lorac purchase and I am very impressed!

Shades like this are beautiful on chillier days, it gives a healthy glow to cheeks that are losing their summer tan. The Lorac Cheek Stain is great because it claims to last 12 hours, and for me it does! My suggestion with darker blush shades, however, is to keep a light hand while applying. It's easy to end up looking like a clown with darker shades if you apply too much.

In the summer, I like to keep my eye makeup light and natural, but in the fall, I'm all about eyeshadows that are more metallic and gem-toned. Heavier eye makeup reflects the coziness of the season. One eyeshadow palette that reflects the vibrant colors of autumn is the NYX Suede Color Palette. It's a great (and affordable) collection of neutrals and jewel-tones that even reminds me of the changing leaves.

The top row has beautiful neutral shimmery shades, with a highlighting white, a bronze, a gold, and a copper. These shades are incredibly versatile and can be worn alone or in combination with the bottom row. The bottom row (also all shimmer) has a grayish green, an auburn brown, a peacock green, and a rusty red. Seriously, folks, these shades look like they fell from the trees! I bought this palette back in July (see my Ulta Haul from when I got it), but in the hot summer months, I never reached for it. Now that it's November, the creative juices are flowing and this palette and these colors feel so right.

I absolutely love the richer shades of makeup that accompany the fall. What are your favorite beauty trends this autumn?
